Some good news! Washoe County has now issued nearly 2,000 refunds of excess taxes plus interest. Through the end of this month those payments are being made to those who still own the same residence today as they did during the 2003 through 2005 period when the unlawful property tax collection first began. Those taxpayers are referred to as “Current Owners” in the settlement agreement. Thereafter, payments are made strictly in the order in which the County receives claims.
There are still some taxpayers who have yet to make a claim for their property tax refund! If you have yet to make a claim please do so soon. No claim means no refund. If you are a Current Owner and have not made your claim it is even more important. Otherwise, you’ll go to the end of the line.
The quickest way to make a claim is online. Simply go to PropertyTaxRefundClaim to complete and submit the forms.
We are working hard to ensure the County complies with the terms of the settlement agreement. We have two requests.
– If you have not made a claim AND also have not been notified via mail by the County of your refund eligibility, please let us know.
– If you have submitted your claim, are a Current Owner qualifying for a this-year payment, but do not receive it in December please notify us.
