Hans Keller, our Constable, took time to write the brief description below to help explain the responsibilities of the Office of the Constable and the working relationship with the Incline Village Justice Court.
Historically, the Incline Village Justice Court has utilized the Constable’s Office for enforcement of court orders. The Constable’s Office is a separate law enforcement agency within the Washoe County that serves the Incline Village Crystal Bay Township community. Over the years, the Constable’s Office has increased its responsibilities with our Justice Court. Responsibilities include assistance with court ordered probation, pre-trial services with defendant monitoring and drug testing, courtroom security with initial x-ray screening, prisoner transport to and from the court and jail, and other duties. The relationship between the Justice Court and Constable’s Office has strengthened and established an efficient working process. If the Justice Court loses its Office of Constable, then the court must rely on other law-enforcement agencies not familiar with the complex workings of the court. In a nutshell, the Constable has to wear many hats to serve the community. My purpose for posting is my objection to the process of abolishing a service to our local community without any conversation, debate, open communication or shared analysis. And yes, if the county closes our Incline Village Justice Court, and then all court matters need to be heard in Reno.
