Transit Hub

January 11, 2021

YOUR IMMEDIATE ACTION IS NEEDED to provide public comment to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) related to the proposed use of the former Incline Village Elementary School as a transportation hub for all of Lake Tahoe. A thirty-day public comment period commenced on December 28, 2020 and closes on January 28, 2021, on the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s draft 2021 Federal Transportation Improvement Program (“FTIP”) for the period 2021-2024.  Click here to view the document.  The draft TRPA’s four-year transportation improvement plan contains one reference to Incline Village on page 81 of the .pdf with a grid showing the former Incline Village Elementary School site as the location of a large parking lot and transportation hub.

TRPA is intending to restrict parking on SR28.  The proposed Incline Village transit hub will be used for parking and bussing to the East Shore Trail, Sand Harbor and locations along SR28.

Many local Incline Village and Crystal Bay residents have been providing their input on this project to the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) and Washoe County.  In response to project objections, the TTD Governing Board at their December 2020 meeting directed that alternative sites be looked at in Incline Village. An ad hoc committee of the Governing Board was established to oversee this effort. Mr. Hasty, the responsible official at TTD, was directed to host public input meetings in Incline Village.  At the December 2020 Washoe County Board of Commissioners meeting, in response to public objections, the agenda item to approve the contribution of $285,000.00 of former park funds slotted for Incline Village public parks for use in TTD’s acquisition of the former school site, was taken off calendar pending further decision by the TTD Board.

The TRPA plan does not discuss any alternative transportation hub and parking sites nor does it discuss expending funds to evaluate alternative sites within and outside of Incline Village/Crystal Bay.  Many alternative locations have been recommended by members of the Incline Village community as more suitable locations for parking and a transportation hub.

Additionally, verbal public comment may be given on January 22, 2021 at the scheduled TTD Commission Board meeting.  Call-in information is not yet available. However, we expect it to be made available by January 19th at this website location.

Please send your written comments to Judy Weber, with the request that your written comments be added to the public comment at the January 22, 2021 public meeting and that copies be provided to the entire governing Board of TRPA.  This is critical and time sensitive.

Again, the Draft 2021 FTIP document is available upon request or can be viewed online here.
