Commissioners Lucey and Jung, with terms expiring at the end of 2022, and Commissioner Hill have been advocating for a change in the Washoe County ordinance to allow cannabis lounges in unincorporated Washoe County. The schedule for the first and second readings of the proposed ordinance change are not expected to take place before the year end. This leaves re-elected Commissioner Herman and Commissioner Hartung, who have both voted in opposition, Commissioner Hill and the newly elected Mike Clark, replacing Commissioner Lucey in District 2, and Mariluz Garcia, replacing Commissioner Jung in District 3, to act upon the proposed changes.
It is anticipated that the issue will be before the Washoe County Planning Commission on December 6th and then the Washoe County Board of Commissioners for the first reading of the proposed ordinance change on January 10th. If it passes the first reading, the second reading is anticipated to be on January 24th, and if passed the ordinance will be in effect 20 days after the passing of the second reading.
