The Washoe County Planning Commission voted 3-3 on the proposed ordinance to allow cannabis lounges in unincorporated Washoe County. Given this vote on December 6th, the Washoe County Planning Department has been directed by the Washoe County Manager’s office to appeal the Planning Commission denial so that the previous County Commissioner direction is honored. The three Commissioners in favor of this ordinance are Commissioners Hill, Jung, and Lucey. Commissioners Jung and Lucey’s terms expire at the end of December, so there will be two new Commissioners weighing in on this proposed ordinance in the new year.
The County Commissioners have cancelled their January 10th and January 24th meetings, so the likely schedule may be January 17th for first reading and hearing of the appeal, and if passed, the second reading and possible adoption may be at their meeting on February 14th .
