Wouldn’t it be nice if our Washoe County Commissioners asked for our input on STR regulations?
Below is language lifted from the survey put forth by the Town of Truckee:
“The Town of Truckee is considering updates to our community’s Short-Term Rental (STR) Ordinance, and we want to hear from you! The updates that are being considered include the following three recommendations to the ordinance:
- A cap on the number of STR registration certificates issued
- The creation of a waiting period after a property sells before they can be eligible as an STR
- The phasing out of STRs in multi-family housing units
The Town of Truckee formed a stakeholder advisory committee to study STR management options and provide recommendations. The committee is made up of a broad range of stakeholders and met over a three month period to consider this complex issue. It was hoped that proactively managing the STR registration program would create a tool to help maintain the supply of housing that is affordable to the regional workforce. They considered data from the makeup and use of the current STR inventory in Truckee, tools used in similar destination communities, as well as findings from a literature review that looked at several academic studies on these potential tools and their impacts on the housing market. It is from this process that the three recommendations above were made.
These are recommendations that are currently being considered. We are seeking public input and community involvement in this important decision. The survey will be available from January 14, 2022 until January 24, 2022. The information received will then be presented to the Truckee Town Council at the February 8, 2022 Truckee Town Council meeting.
