The Resort at Tahoe commercial project, formally named “Boulder Bay” is a commercial project within Crystal Bay, Nevada. Very generally, the project is located at the current Biltmore location. The address is 5 State Route 28 and includes multiple surrounding parcels. The project applicant is EKN.
Construction during the 2022 Tahoe Basin construction season has been limited to public safety support, field work to support traffic studies and on-site identification of utility connections (potholing). With the 2022 SR 28 road construction, EKN indicated that they will initiate demolition after the summer months, to limit traffic impacts. The site is being utilized by Washoe County Sheriff, SWAT, and regional fire departments for training. Under review by Washoe County is a resubmission of the Wassou connector road limited to a section commonly called “Upper Wassou.” The applicant notified Washoe County that they intend to apply for remaining regional and local approvals to redevelop the site during 2022 and 2023.
Washoe County partners with multiple regional and local agencies to facilitate the review and approval process. Currently, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Project Approval Permit remains valid. On June 21, 2022 the applicant submitted their fourth plan revision to reflect grading and construction of “Upper Wassou”. This plan is under review by Tahoe Regional Planning Agency staff. No other applications have been submitted to TRPA. If you are interested in this process, please contact the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Paul Nielsen, TRPA Special Projects Manager at pnielsen@trpa.org.
The Biltmore property is closed to the public and is an active construction site, which means it should not be accessed without authorization. The site is monitored by security personnel, as well as the Sheriff’s department. Code enforcement will continue to monitor the site throughout construction. To ensure site security and safety, the public is reminded to not trespass on the property and if suspicious activity is noted, to call local law enforcement.
As with any mixed-use commercial project, regional and local application, permitting, licensure, and community integration is complex. Please feel free to contact development@washoecounty.gov for information regarding the review and approval process. For specific project information, please contact the project applicant. If you would like to register directly with the developer to receive project updates and to be informed about upcoming events, please register at revitalizetahoebiltmore.com.
We invite you to contact Washoe County if this brief update on the Resort at Tahoe commercial project does not answer your regional and local permitting questions. Please feel free to email development@washoecounty.gov if you have any questions or concerns.
