Misinformation continues. At the Board of Trustees meeting on August 30th, the board took the time to correct some of the inaccuracies presented during public comment. A few points were noteworthy; all Trustees voted for the golf rate changes; all Trustees voted in favor of the 2023/24 budget including rate changes; no employee benefits have been reduced or eliminated with the exception of the non-resident beach access at the recommendation of special outside legal counsel; NO POLICIES (beyond the golf cancelation policy that was reverted to its prior form) have been changed but what was learned is that policies were not being consistently, and in some cases, correctly administered.
Some people are still thinking if there are enough verified signatures, that the Trustee(s) would be removed. This is NOT the case. Should there be sufficient, verified signatures, then there will be a “Special Election”. This is not an election of candidates, but would be a vote to recall or not to recall. Should the number of votes be sufficient to recall, then the new Trustee(s) will be APPOINTED by the remaining members of the Board of Trustees. For instance, if both Trustees are voted to be recalled, then Trustees Noble, Tonking and Tulloch will be appointing new Trustees. If only one of the Trustees is voted to be recalled, then the remaining 4 Trustees have the opportunity to appoint a new Trustee. In the case of a split vote, then the Washoe County Board of Commissioners will do the appointment.
The Washoe County Registrar of Voters has requested when you submit your request to have your name removed from the recall lists, you specifically state “the petitions for Sara Schmitz and Matthew Dent”. They are receiving requests for removal from the “IVGID” recall list and is NOT sufficient.
If you want to remove your name from the list, email ElectionsDepartment@WashoeCounty.gov.
