The Registrar of Voters was to have completed their count of the number of unverified signatures and to have submitted this information to the office of the Nevada Secretary of State by the end of day on September 21st, yesterday. It is anticipated there will be over the minimum required 1,801 unverified signatures. The final submission of recall petitions has yet to be made available for public examination.
The signature verification process will begin within a few days. During verification process, expected to take 20 business days, signatures may be removed from the recall petition (see below for instructions). The costs of signature verification are paid by The Committee to Recall IVGID Trustee Matthew Dent and The Committee To Recall IVGID Trustee Sara Schmitz. The Directors of both committees are Tim Callicrate, Mary Kleingartner and Tia White. The estimated costs for this effort is $13,440.
The committees contribution and expense disclosure documents may be viewed on the Secretary of State website at the links below:
If there are not 1,801 or more verified signatures, no further action will be taken. On the other hand, if there are sufficient verified signatures, then the process of producing a recall ballot will begin.
On October 11th, it is anticipated the Washoe County Commissioners will be hiring an outside firm to produce ballots and manage the ballot gathering and process. The costs of this effort, expected to be identified at the October 11th WCBCC meeting, will be billed to IVGID.
If both Dent and Schmitz are voted to be recalled, then replacements will be appointed to complete their terms, which both end on December 31 of next year. Dent will not be able to run for reelection due to term limits and Schmitz is eligible to serve for one more term. The decision on the appointment would be made by Trustees Noble, Tonking and Tulloch.
If you want to remove your name from the recall petitions, email ElectionsDepartment@washoecounty.gov providing your name, physical address and state you are requesting your name be removed from the petition to recall Sara Schmitz and the petition to recall Matthew Dent. The Registrar of Voters has requested you NOT say “the IVGID recall petition”. There are only the petitions to recall by the individual names. There are two different petitions that must be identified.
