The County Manager’s Advisory Council met today, September 1. The following information was shared related to COVID:
The COVID Delta variant surge was first reported by Washoe County in July. In July, the county reported 20 new cases per day. At the present time, the county is reporting 270 new cases per day.
Free COVID testing is provided at the Reno Livestock Center. The demand for COVID tests has significantly increased since July.
COVID contact tracing priorities are for 5-17 year olds, then 13-17 year olds, lastly 0-4 year olds and school staff and families. The County is asking the Washoe County School District to provide personnel for contact tracing.
The National Hospital Association has reported North Nevada hospitals have reached a critical level for staffing, especially for nurses and other staff. The additional patients are putting hospitals and staff under strains and pressure.
Clark County appears to be coming down from its surge. Washoe County is hoping for its curve to flatten.
The county is reporting the percentage of fully vaccinated persons 12 and older is at 60.89% with partially vaccinated reporting at 67.63%. For the entire population in Washoe Count percentage of fully vaccinated persons is 51.9% while the number for partially vaccinated is 57.65%.
Statistics today on hospitalizations should be carefully considered by unvaccinated persons. In Northern Nevada 85% of those hospitalization are UNVACCINATED, and nationally 90% of those persons hospitalized are UNVACCINATED.
