At their meeting on November 7th, the Washoe County Planning Commission approved the zoning amendment to the Wood Creek regulatory zone to allow “Schools – Kindergarten through Secondary” as an acceptable type of permitted use, subject to a special use permit, on those parcels in size equal to, or greater than, three-acres. Prior to this approved amendment, schools were only an allowed use in 3 commercial areas of Incline Village. The area where the Old Elementary School was located, the area along Village Boulevard where the Incline Elementary and High Schools are located and the area around the Incline Middle School. Residents adjacent to St. Francis Church, where St. Clare’s School is operating, expressed concerns related to increased traffic and noise. They stated Kelly Drive, where St. Clare’s is located, is not as wide as McCourry Boulevard where Village Church is located and also plan to operate an elementary school in addition to their existing pre-school. Both current former residents of Incline Village expressed the need for faith based education.
The full approval process of this zoning amendment is expected to continue for a few months. If this amendment receives full approval, both schools will need to file for a special use permit.
